A lactating woman will need an additional 500-700 calories than she did when she was pregnant. It takes about 225 calories to produce 1 cup of breastmilk!
Breastfeeding may be ‘natural’, but it doesn’t always come easily and takes time, patience and commitment, especially in the early weeks.
A woman will need a nutrient-dense diet, including protein, healthy fats, vegetables and complex carbohydrates, as well as foods that contain Galactagogues.
What are Galactagogues?
These are foods that may assist in increasing milk supply, and/or enriching the quality of her milk.
Some of the foods that are ‘said’ to help are Oats, Fennel, Papaya, Spinach, Brewers Yeast, Molasses, Spinach, Almonds, Chickpeas, Fenugreek and Carrots.
Hydration is also extremely important and this can be achieved by increased water intake, herbal teas and Bone Broth.
The offerings on this page aim at providing the Newborn’s Mother nutritional requirements and helping her breastfeeding journey to be more comfortable with nourishing products that assist with nipple damage and wellness.
